Thank you for visiting our website! The Australian Coal Energy Council (ACEC) was founded in 2023 to represent the interest of major coal generators and coal mines in Australia, including their investors and workers. We link community and industry in a group that seeks to provide a balanced view on the energy transition.
Our key principle is that jobs and investor returns are just as important as science in decision making. We aim to counter the lobbying of groups like CSIRO. Coal energy is cheaper and more sustainable than renewables.
Renewable generation is unreliable. The sun doesn't always shine and the wind doesn't always blow. It is unrealistic to imagine that we can operate a grid at all times on renewable energy and no studies have confirmed this. Of course coal does sometimes have outages or catastrophic failures. But grid battery forced outage rates are increasing and solar power is explicitly unavailable for more than half of each day. If governments invested the same amount in coal generators as they do in renewables and provided guaranteed prices then coal operators would have financial incentives to increase output.
We are ready to work with all participants to clearly explain what policies will do for our Australia's grid and its investors.
